By October of 1988, the company had established a strong financial base and obtained loans to build studios in Chicago.  After a six month search the current site at 11 W. Illinois Street was chosen.  The goal was not a just build a studio; the goal was to build a studio that was special enough to attract work to Chicago from across the country.  1988 was a transitional time in the recording business; the recording industry was in a state of transition from analog (tape) to digital technology.  That played a big part in the design of the studio.  The studios were designed for digital equipment that was not even manufactured yet.  The concept of a digitally networked studio was a pipedream not a reality.  But, in a leap of faith, the decision was made to build a studio that could accommodate the new digital technology when it arrived.  So during Phase One of construction, many construction dollars were buried beneath the floors of the studio into a labyrinth of tunnels that would eventually house the wiring for the first digitally networked studios in the United States.
